Disabled Adapted Holiday Homes
Disabled Adapted Holiday Homes
Disabled Adapted Holiday Homes can accommodate the severely disabled and wheelchair-bound visitor.
After speaking to many disabled children and adults, most prefer to stay and holiday in the UK, where they feel safe with familiar surroundings.
Aeroplane flights can be long and tiresome and many of the children we spoke to, at Acorns Hospice, felt that they were made to feel inferior.
Waveney River Centre have adapted holiday homes to accommodate their disabled visitors, so they too can enjoy a holiday, much like the able-bodied person.
There are two lodges which are suitable for people in wheelchairs. Facilities include a 1:12 access ramp, single level throughout, wide doors, wheelchair turning circles in most areas, wheelchair-friendly wetroom and alarm from bathroom to lounge.
The new touring & camping showers are also accessible, with one dedicated disabled shower/WC and all others are on a single level and suitable for people with limited mobility.
Haven Holidays have specially converted Holiday Homes for wheelchair access, at most of their parks, with a choice of sizes and styles suitable for family and/or carer occupation.
Adapted Holiday Homes offer ramp-enabling wheelchair access, wide sliding doors, converted WC/Shower room (some showers have an entry lip to retain the water, so carer assistance may be required) and trapeze lift handle in most Homes.
Their Holiday Home advisors will be happy to discuss the suitability of their homes for your special needs on 0871 230 1926.
Lee Valley Regional Parks put together special day and weekends for disabled and special needs children.
There are some that also offer respite for the families of disabled children and their carers.
Most beaches are inaccessible to a wheel chair but we at UK Campsite finder have been doing some serious homework.
There is an All Terrain Wheelchair called the ’Landeez’. This is a great wheelchair to visit the beaches and can also be use for the sea.
These can be hired out for a small fee.
Below are the beaches that have this kind odf wheelchair access and hire facility.
Northside Farm ,who are opening the site on the 1st May 2011, will also be catering for the disabled visitor and child. Their original aim was to provide respite holidays for the whole family, so they have started with a few wigwams which are accessible for wheelchairs and the bathrooms also cater for wheelchairs.
However for older children who are profoundly disabled and may need extra equipment, the wigwams may not be big enough, however they are hoping to expand and develop the farm further.
If you thought being disabled would limit you in going onto the beach and in the sea, we may have found a great solution. There is an all terrain wheel chair called the ‘landeez’ this is a special designed wheelchair that can be used on the beach and over uneven terrain.
Below are some suggestions of beaches that offer the Landeez Wheel Chair

Please also check out the European website www.campsitefindereurope.com but please bear in mind that the European disabled standards may not be the same as the UK, so please check facilities with the park first, before booking.
