20 SHILLING WOOD CARAVAN PARK, COMRIE
My parents had their touring caravan on this site for a considerable number of years.
The site had been a wonderful haven for both my parents and indeed myself and my extended family for years, that is, until recently.
At the start of the season last year, my parents were offered a static plot for their tourer caravan. The site was in some disrepair with trellising broken and the planted area overgrown. My Dad has completely overhauled the area putting up new trellising, planted and generally made the plot one of the most aesthetic on the site.
A few weeks ago, Dad was informed in a very casual manner that he would have to vacate the site and the owner would try to find him an alternative plot.
Prior to Dad starting the aforementioned works, on a plot that was promised would, I quote, ‘be his until I (the owner) vacated/sold the site’ clarified with the owner that he would indeed be able to stay on the plot as stipulated above, and so, yes it was worth him renovating the plot.
The notice to move plots was mentioned in passing, no courteous phone call or request to meet was made.
My parents are Pensioners and have thoroughly enjoyed their time at the site but the whole experience has been soured by the unpleasant way they were treated and have now vacated the site.
The amount of stress this course of events has put my parents under should be viewed as a warning to anyone considering using this site and if you choose to – BEWARE – do not accept a static plot if you are in a touring caravan under any circumstance – the saying ‘Gentlemen’s Agreement’ does not apply to the current owners.
