Roger Dubois (July 24th, 2012)
We booked a caravan with Springfield Holiday Park (Ros & Brodie McIntyre) in March 2012. We paid a deposit of £50.00 for a Super Royale Caravan which is described on their website as "unashamedly our most luxuriously furnished and comfortable caravan". As the description also included decking, a week before our holiday we rang to check barbeques were allowed and we were advised that they were. A couple of days before the holiday, we rang again to check there were no problems due to severe flooding in that particular area.
We arrived at 5pm and asked to pay the remainder of the cost (£345.00). After this we were shown to the caravan. This was what must have been one of the worst positions on the site. The "beautifully upholstered full lounge suite" was nowhere in evidence, neither was the "wrap around fully-fitted kitchen". As caravan bedrooms go the one in this caravan was incredibly small. As for the "spacious wooden deck area for barbeques, socialising, reading or just enjoying the afternoon sun" you would have to do all that standing up because there was no furniture provided for these activities.
We returned to the office and the manager/warden said she would speak to the owners. We went off to shop for groceries and on our return we offered £50.00 discount as there were no Super Royale caravans available. As we had booked what was shown to be a "luxurious" caravan on Springfield Holiday Park's website, that was what we wanted, not something with banquette seating, a galley kitchen and no furniture for the decking.
As we had telephoned the site two days prior to the holiday, we asked why we were not told at that point that the Super Royale was not available. We had driven nearly 300 hundred miles for this holiday only to find that we had gone there under false pretences.
We asked for our money back and the manager/warden went to see the site owners.
He then returned and refunded our monies. However the real culpability rests with the owners who took our booking, spoke to us prior to arrival and still hadn't the guts to show their faces.
