The communication during booking was friendly if somewhat dizzy. Upon arrival at the site the first thing was that there is no proper facility to fill your on-board water tank, which resulted in myself and the site owner standing in the rain with a rather Heath Robinson affair of his cow shed hose my filling hose lashed together, with him holding the hose on the tap and me holding the joint of the two hoses together, not much fun in the rain after a 5 hour drive. We were taken to our pitch which looked very nice if a bit watery, views are very nice. We set up the camper and awning (luckily it had stopped raining) and settled in for the night. It rain most of the rest of the night. In the morning I stepped out of my camper and sank 6 inches into my groundsheet, the ground was totally sodden and within an hour the ground under my groundsheet had turned to a 6 inch deep squidgy slab of mud. The farm sells their hens eggs and I have to say they are the best eggs I have had for many a year. The new washroom and shower block was very nice and clean, however when I needed to empty the water and chemical toilet I was shocked. Firstly I entered an area by mistake and was confronted by a huge collection of waste from the bins, why I don't know but it must be a health hazard. I did eventually find the disposal point which was definitely a health hazard, it was filthy and was in what I can only describe as a disused shower block (it was as if I'd walked into a derelict building). The disposal point was green with mould, it smelt and the cleaning hose was about 12 inches long with no water pressure, I felt like I needed a shower after being in there. Also you have to negotiate your way down a 10-12 foot grass slope to reach the first steps to the building, in the wet this is lethal and I know is in breach of health and safety regulations. In conclusion it is my opinion that this is a beef herd farm with a bit of spare land and is serviced as an addition to the main business. The owners are pleasant but not particularly committed to the campsite, which is a shame as it has huge potential as a very nice site. I would never say don't go to any site but just be aware of its short comings and you won't be disappointed as we were.

Reply by Brightlycott Barton:

Thank you for your comments about the niceness of the site generally in particular the shower block and views. We are glad you enjoyed our eggs also but very saddened to hear that you had disappointments.

It was a shame that your short stay coincided with 3 very wet days in the midst of an exceptionally rainy summer which inevitably made the grass wetter than we would have liked. In fact we believe our pitches to be very well draining but this summer has been quite a challenge and we are continually looking at ways to improve drainage further.

We apologise that you came across the recycling that was awaiting collection (in an area that is not public). We will make sure a notice is put on the door to prevent this happening in future. The chemical disposal point is in our former toilet block and we have taken note of your comments about this area so that we can make improvements to it prior to next year's season.
